Just got back from our Christmas Vacation – almost 750 miles each way! The kids were great – we took breaks about every 2 hours to 4 hours and they got out and ran around. They slept alot, particularlly on the way home. I think they were a little tired playing with their cousins, aunts, and uncles .
The traffic and weather was awesome. Only one throw up episode, and it wasn’t bad at all. I ended up driving the whole way back, but I think driving was easier than helping the kids.My wife was amazing, twisting around, running our cheap little DVD player without being able to see the controls or screen.
It was even a little bit fun – nothing quite like a road trip. Kind of like camping – intentionally subjecting yourself to trials/difficult circumstances just to see how you do. There are side benefits – fresh air, scenery, etc. But part of what makes them more enjoyable is what you went through to get it. That’s part of why food always tastes better on a camp out. And a road trip is the only way I can stand McDonalds.
